The castle was of military significance. It is protected from the south-east by mountains, it did not need additional structures. The castle is rectangular with two rows of walls protected from the east. The southern part of the eastern inner wall divides the castle into two parts. The first and second rows of the 3-meter-wide wall have been preserved. Tkhkut gorge, like Kotayk fortresses, was a military checkpoint to protect Astghi hill fortress by the Sarnajur river.
