Kaptavank
Kaptavank is one of the famous monuments of medieval Armenia. It is located 5 km south-west of Chinchin village, Tavush region, RA. Of the former monastic complex, only the church now stands, with traces of a vestibule and other structures preserved on the south-western fronts. It is a unique building built on four arches. According to the inscription of one of the stones lying on the ground on the north edge of the western wall of the 2nd floor of the church, on which only the date was, the church was built in 1349. It was first mentioned in 1947.
The church of Kaptavank is remarkable and special not so much for its compositional solutions, which in the developed Middle Ages were quite widespread throughout Armenia, but for their artistic originality. It best confirms that the use of the smallest amount of polished stone can emphasize the main thing - to achieve genius harmony.
