Deghdzut Monastery
9 km south-east of Acharkut village, deep in the forest, on the Deghdzut hillside, where the monastery is located, a magnificent panorama of forested mountains opens, and in front of it, on the creeks of a deep rock, rises the historic Berdakar. It is the former fortress of the princes of Mahkanaberd. We have not received any other historical information about the construction of the monument, its past, but the style of the monuments suggests that the monastery can be attributed to the 13th century. This date is also confirmed by several donation protocols. It is known from ancient manuscripts that during the reign of Archimandrite Arakel the monastery was a center of writing. It is supposed that Deghdzut, as a careful center, the center of writing, continued its existence in the following centuries.
