Competitive advantages of Tavush region

Tavush has important competitive advantages that make this region attractive for investors. One of the most important ones is exemption from all taxes in 24 border villages. Tavush region has natural and climatic excellent conditions, as well as infrastructures for sustainable development of businesses. More than this:

  • Membership to Eurasian Economic Union: Removal of administrative barriers between member states that allows free movement of goods, services, capital and people, no customs duties
  • GSP: Armenia currently enjoys GSP beneficiary status with Canada, Japan, Norway, Switzerland and the USA
  • Since 2009, Armenia has also been included in the list of countries granted GSP+ by the European Union. This allows Armenia to export to the EU 6,400 products and pay fewer or no duties on exports
  • Free trade agreement with Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Moldova
  • Free trade with CIS countries
  • Negotiations on free trade with over 30 different countries, including China, South Korea, Iran, Egypt
  • Favourable market opportunities with Georgia

Agriculture, tourism and industry are the priority sectors of development of Tavush region. Here are some advantaged for these sectors:


  • great potential for agriculture (110 751.5 hectares of agricultural lands, high productivity of agricultural products)
  • no mines and mining industry
  • opportunity for organic agriculture
  • clean water


  • historical and cultural monuments (ancient monastery complexes and carved rock fortresses, nearly 800 documented historical sites cross stones, bridges, tombs, etc.)
  • potential for medical tourism: fresh, clean air, mineral water springs, forests, fields and valleys rich in medicinal herbs
