Zikatar is the youngest of the sanctuaries of Tavush region, which was founded in 2010. Zikatar Sanctuary was established to ensure the sustainable use of landscape and biological diversity of forest ecosystems, unique natural monuments, natural development, conservation, protection, restoration, reproduction, as well as natural recreational resources. The objects of special protection of the sanctuary are the unique fauna and forest vegetation of the high mountain forest ecosystems of the northern slopes of Dzigkatar peak.
