Geography

Dilijan is located on the road connecting the cities of the Tavush, Lori, and Gegharkunik regions. Dilijan has long been known as one of the most popular resort cities in Armenia due to its favorable climatic conditions. It is about 96 km away from Yerevan, 35 km from Ijevan. In ancient times, the territory of Dilijan was in the province of Varajnunik, Ayrarat province of Great Armenia. Back in the distant 4th century, Armenian kings loved to spend their holidays here. It is mentioned as a royal hunting ground. Dilijan was first mentioned in written sources in 1666, in the memoir of the famous French traveler Jean Chardin.

There are many rest houses and sanatoriums in the city. In 1958, the forests near the city became a sanctuary. The Dilijan Reserve is now one of the largest in our country. Dilijan National Park has many beautiful mountain lakes and healing mineral springs.
