Achajur

Achajur village is one of the oldest settlements of the marz and is mentioned since 16
th century.
Achajur has always expressed themselves with it’s natality. Present’s Teghut and Haghartsin villages were found by immigrants from Achajur.
There are many churches, monasteries, khachkars and other historical monuments in both present and old villages. In distance (7km) from the viilige, on woody hill is Makaravank church that has been built in 12t
h century.
It express themselves with it’s unrepeatable architecture. In the center is another church which has been built in 18
th century by greek brothers Dmitri and Kostantine.
First school in Achajur was founded in 1880’s and since 1937 works secondary school that has has thousands of school leavers.
Many of them has become academicians (26), doctors and professors, army generals, high-up officials etc.

Acharkut

Population 185 people (2012: January 1st)
Area 0.2km ²
Acharkut Banavan was established in 1924.It is called Cooney due to the Wood
ripping operation factory. As a working class area, the surrounding villages people came to settled there. in 1932 due to the expansion of production began to build houses, a school , a hospital, a bakery , a shop, a restaurant and other facilities. In 1964 Sevkar saw factory was renamed Acharkut . It is located in the Ijevan region of north- eastern area of spectacular natural setting. River, which flows through the workers township ,. called Karahan, which grow fish for trout.
The local forestry occupies about 14.0 milion hectares, which grow high- value tree species, beech, oak, linden, maple, hornbeam stick, etc.
Acharkut area is rich in historical buildings St Mary, Kirants churches, Samson, Deghdzut, Apostle monastery, Sranots bridge, which was built in the 10-13
th century.
The area is favourable for the development of ecotourism.

Aknaghbyur

Area - 5.8km²
Village founded in the left coast of Aghstev. From south it is bordering with Lusadzor and from north Achajur villages. Aknaghbyur surrounding archeological sites in the southern part of the famous shrine. There is a old oak tree. Accordind to legend the tree was planted by Commander Vardan Mamikonyan 450, khaghkhagh triumphante return to the battle. in 1978 the oak faild. Beside Fallen oak tree John Marshal of Soviet Union planted new one. According to some sources there were inhabitants from city Aghdan of Arcakh that’s why village called Nerqin Aghdan. In 1967 village renamed Moorut and 1970 Aknaghbyur.

Archis

Area 13.5 km2

Archis village of Tavush region is on the right bank of Debed river 4km away from railway station of Ayrum.
It was founded 350 years ago by Miskarian brothers who were outstanding employees in local copper mines and the territory of present Ayrum was given them as a gift. The main occupation of people has always been horticulture and it’s not accsidentally that here has been built a fruit dryer factory in the beginning of 1930’s.

Aygehovit

Population 3608 people (2012, January 1st)
 Area: 21.1 km 2
The village was founded in 1803-1804 displaced by Kharabagh. Formerly it called Uzunthala. Initially there were lived 64 people, but in 1992 there were 3750. The village's development started in the 1930s.
Subsequently there were built secondary school, department store, House of culture, hospital , administrative and household objects. The commander colonel Artashes Vasilyan and the hero of Soviet Union Ruben Hakobyan were from Aygehovit. In 1990- 1994 the village took the first blow in the war suffered significant losses from destroyed infrastructure and suffered significant losses. Completely destroyed the infrastructure, and shelled residential buildings. During military operations, there were killed 6 people , injured 29. In recent years, the village budget and other programs are implemented through school construction, road building and some water project works.

Azatamut

Azatamut

Azatamut was founded in1970 as "Bentonit" workers township combine or "Banavan" . Community has 22 apartment buildings, 22 cottages, secondary school 317pupils. In 2004 the school underwent a partial renovation of the state budget. The kindergarden was renovated in international programs. House of culture in desperate need of repair, and ther is no community center.

The village is on of the eldest settlements of the marz of Tavush. In past it has been a part of a Kayan district of a Gurark (Gugarats ) province. Here was Gavarzin rock-castle during rule of Bagratuni kings. First was called Joghaz. Renamed Berkaber during Soviet years. The village was on Tiflis (Tbilisi)-Karmir bridge-Dilijan-Yerevan royal caravan way. In XIX century the village was the only settlement in marz that had a scheme of construction. At that time had a progress as a post station but after built of the Yerevan-Dilijan-Ghazakh-Tbilisi road has lost it’s value. In 1990s was one of hotspots of the war. Bombing caused many ruins of public and living houses. There were 5 dead men during the interethnic war.

Ijevan


Since ancient times ( there is not correct historical data ) on the caravan way from the capital of Armenia ( Dvin ) to Tbilisi ( Tiflis), in both sides of Aghstev river had been built caravanserais. A few of them has been found on present territory of Ijevan in right and left sides of Ijevan. The number of population started to rise since 2nd half of 19th century when people here started making handicraft ( carpet making, woodwork) potato and tabac growing. In 1898 opened first school (parish) and after some time were built St Amenaprkich church. In 7-9 centuries in IJevan has been built St Astvatsatzin and St Hovhannes churches. During its history Ijevan has given people like academician Aslanyan, historian Harents, colonel Blbulyan etc.
In 1996 Ijevan became a center of new create Tavush marz.

The territory of Khashtarak has been populated since ancient times. Its improved with kinds of weapons, chatties, jugs and other object found here. The settlement has been ruined by conquerors many times. It has finally collapsed In 1721 by lezgies, in 1723 by turks, and in 1795-97 by Agh Mehmed Khan’s companies. In the end of 18
th century and start of 19th century movers from Jrashen and Gyulistan districts of Karabagh repopulated this settlement. Here was born Armen Gulakyan ( one of geniuses of Armmovie).

According to historical data Kirants ( in past Kune) is mentioned since 4
th century. Has been the center of Kungark district of Gugarats state. Has lived progress in 12-13th cc. during the rule of Zakaryan and Mahkanaberd’s Artsruni princes. In 16-18th cc. belonged to Kherumyan princes. Kirants took active part during interethnig fights against turk-azeries. There were 16 dead and invalids during that war.

th century. Till 1946 was called Melikgyugh. Here has been built St Hakob church. One of First actresses of armmovie Ketevan Aramyanc was born here in Melikgyugh. One of Sovet Union heroes Ishkhan Saribekyan also was born here.

Vazashen as a settlement is mentioned since ancient times. It’s one of old settlements of the marz. In past it was called Ashergegh, Lalagegh, Laligyugh. During the war people of Vazashen defended heroic their settlement but 10 warriors of freedom and civilian were dead. Many public and residential houses were damaged.

Yenokavan

Population 543 people (according to 2012 January 1st data)
Yenokavan village has story of 200 years. Until 1931 called Krdevan. Then the village was named after the active member of may rebellion of 1918 Yenok Mkrtumyan (Yenokavan). In neighborhood territories of the village there are ruins of ancient churches and castles. In village has been castles in ancient times where bronze ornaments and other antique things were found. The part of that things are hold in History museum of Yerevan.
There are all conditions and reserves in the village for development of ecotourism.
